Research Areas: 3D printing, ultrafast optics

Team Profiles

Prof. Jun Lu

Prof. Jun Lu joined the Departments of Chemistry and Physics at NUS in February 2025 as a Presidential Young Professor. His research focuses on chiral nano–topological engineering, thermal photonics, ultrafast light–heat interactions, and structured light. Group website: www.junlulab.com

Open Position

Postdoctoral Fellow

Representative Research Topics (including but not limited to)

  • Volumetric 3D printing and tomographic fabrication (e.g., light-field printing, multi-photon polymerization, computed axial lithography);

  • Ultrafast laser–matter interactions in photopolymerization and nonlinear optical processes;

  • Spatiotemporal light-field engineering for 3D fabrication (e.g., structured light, holography, wavefront shaping);

  • Data-driven design for advanced manufacturing (ML/AI-assisted inverse design of 3D structures and optical fields);

  • Functional photonic structures enabled by 3D printing (e.g., metastructures, optical components, chiral architectures);

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research projects in advanced 3D fabrication and ultrafast photonics, leading to high-impact publications;

  • Design and implement experiments involving ultrafast laser systems, optical field control, and volumetric printing platforms;

  • Develop and optimize fabrication workflows for complex 3D micro/nanostructures;

  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students and contribute to collaborative research efforts;

  • Actively participate in grant applications, project development, and academic dissemination;

Qualifications

  • Recently awarded or soon-to-be-awarded PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields;

  • Research experience in ultrafast optics, nonlinear optics, laser fabrication, 3D printing, or nanophotonics;

  • Strong publication record in reputable international journals;

  • Experience with numerical simulations (e.g., FDTD, COMSOL), optical system design, or laser-based fabrication techniques is highly desirable;

  • Familiarity with machine learning for inverse design or computational imaging is a plus;

  • Demonstrated ability for independent research, with strong teamwork and communication skills;

Work Environment & Compensation

  • Salary & Benefits: Competitive package per NUS policies (specifics commensurate with experience and achievements);

  • Research Support: Substantial start-up funding and access to advanced shared facilities;

  • Career Development: Support for independent grant applications and conference travel; encouragement to develop independent research directions.
